Around twenty-five thousand homes in southeastern Queensland were left lacking electricity on Monday morning after intense storm systems impacted the state, producing strong winds hitting 109 kilometers per hour.

Massive Ice Stones and Broad Damage

Homeowners reported giant hailstones as large as seven centimeters in some areas. The Bureau of Meteorology verified that multiple regions across Queensland had been hit with large hailstones.

Emergency crews were focused on reestablishing energy supply throughout the affected regions, with nearly 70 crews working to address the widespread outages.

Southern State's Storm Challenges

Meanwhile, nearly one thousand households in the southern state also encountered electricity disruptions after Melbourne recorded its heaviest rainfall in 18 months.

Emergency response teams received 598 requests for assistance across the area, mostly for structural issues but also for downed trees and water accumulation.

At one point on Sunday, over 28,000 power users in Victoria were experiencing outages.

Meteorological Predictions

Humid circumstances were expected to linger along large portions of eastern Queensland this week as a weather pattern continued to pull in damp air against the shoreline.

Tuesday was predicted as the heaviest precipitation period, with persistent storm activity predicted across various areas of both states.

Safety Concern

Health officials alerted that there was an increased chance of epidemic thunderstorm asthma across the countryside regions, specifically given the current weather patterns.
