Cruise Halted After Fatal Incident of Woman Left Behind on Remote Island

A two-month journey through the Australian Coast is being halted in the wake of the fatal incident of an senior woman who was abandoned by the cruise liner on a remote tropical isle.

The elderly woman had been hiking on the remote island with shipmates from the vessel, but parted ways from the group for a pause. The ship departed without her and came back later that day after the crew realised the passenger was missing.

A major search operation located her body the following day.

Investigative bodies are looking into the incident, together with law enforcement and the medical examiner.

The CEO of the shipping company stated that guests and crew on the Coral Adventurer were told that the remainder of the voyage had been terminated due to the "tragic passing and earlier engine troubles".

In a statement, he mentioned that travelers would be issued a total repayment, and said the company was working "to organize the return journeys of the travelers via private aircraft".

Authorities also issued an updated announcement, and said they had "delivered a notice to the Master" preventing any further travelers from getting on the vessel.

The representative said that they would visit the vessel in the port city upon its coming back.

The ship originally sailed from the Australian port on October 24th, and was only 48 hours into the expedition at the moment of the senior passenger's passing. The remote island was the first stop on the journey.

She added that she hoped the investigation would be able to pinpoint what "the organization should have undertaken that might have saved Her life".

"Based on information from the authorities that it was a exceptionally warm afternoon, and mum fell ill on the hill climb," she explained.

"They requested her to head down, alone. Then the ship sailed away, apparently without performing a headcount.

"During some point in that sequence, or shortly after, she succumbed, without company."

Organization Reaction

Through an announcement, the Chief Executive affirmed that the operator was "cooperating fully with officials to assist their inquiry".

He mentioned that the firm was "deeply sorry that this has occurred" and had offered its full support to the loved ones.

The liner caters for up to 120 passengers with nearly fifty crew, according to company details. It was specifically designed to access isolated regions of the Australian coast and is fitted with "tenders" - minor craft used to take travelers on day excursions.
